Andres Orco
Andres is a guitarist and music theorist based in Connecticut. He received a bachelors degree from Berklee College of Music, a masters degree from the New England Conservatory of Music, and a doctorate from the University of Colorado Boulder, all in jazz guitar performance. While at Berklee, Andres studied with Mick Goodrick and Tim Miller, both of whom deeply impacted his approach the instrument and its pedagogy. During his studies in Colorado, Andres shared the stage with some of Denver's best musicians, including John Gunther, Victor Mestas, Annie Booth, and Tim Wendel. He has also played in national and international festivals, such as the Panama Jazz Festival and the Denver Five Points Festival. While an active performer, Andres is a researcher and theorist beginning a PhD in Music Theory at Yale University in the fall of 2024. Currently investigating rhythmic complexity in modern jazz, he has presented his research at the Rhythm in Music Since 1900 Conference at McGill University, the International Guitar UB Conference, and the Society for Music Theory Conference.
